Why do people with loud cars and motorbikes rev the engines and take half an hour to pull out of their drives?
It's annoying especially when you live next door to them. Can't you wait till you get to the end of the street? Also, it wakes up my baby son....he can sleep through a helicopter landing on the green but not a skyline leaving a drive!(?) OK, I can ubderstand warming up the engine. Someone said it was to check that everything 'sounded' as though it was working correctly....that doesn't make no difference if your wheel falls off. Also, neighbours should be a little more considerate. I have only be livng here for 7 months, had I known that there were loud noisy vehicles in the vicinity I wouldn't have moved here. How can you help the environment using a bike? Most of you go off on pointless journeys just to have fun and go really fast..... Sorry UNDERSTAND..

- small willys
- Just because they want everyone around them to notice them.
- For the same reason as elephants trumpet and gorillas howl and beat their chests.
- Because they're idiots
- There could be a few reasons. Most just want people to notice them. Others just like the noise and do it because they want to hear it. I ride a very loud bike and I do it before I ride to make sure everything sounds like it should before I leave my driveway. I built the bike myself so I know what it is supposed to sound like. I don't want to break down on the highway.
- great big ego`s
- Because they're show offs :P
- Sadly i am just such a person. But the reason for that is an engine problem where my car won't go until it's over 2000 revs (see my question below and please help!). Oh and i don't have a willy at all... maybe that is my problem!
- Do not know about cars but if my motorbike engine is a bit warmer the performance is so much better. Yes and don't forget need to here of the engine sounds fine before hitting the road. The last reason is for the pure pleasure it brings to hear your bike and know soon it will be you your bike and the road
- try to compensate for something?....wink wink http://laptops.freepay.com/?r=38888376
- They probably have badly maintained engines and want to know if they will last the journey. Otherwise they are just posers like those whose radios can be heard the other end of the M25!
- I have the same problem. Middle-aged men with cars and motorbikes! The phut-phut-phut kind...you should see them. Lovingly washing their vehicles on Sundays. Imagine if you will the sight of a balding silver-haired gentleman wearing pristine white trainers and (YES) board shorts....and a slightly overweight former milkman now regional sales director for an Italian stationery firm no one has heard of sporting a Liverpool shirt last year and a Man U shirt this year... oh deary me. And the substance of the conversation? "Nice bike, Paul" "Nice car, Richard" Phut, phut, phut.....it's a good thing I know how to hack their wireless networks, isn't it?
- While most uninformed, or annoyed neighbors think it is to tick off the neighbors, it really is not. Motorcycles are so different than cars that they need to be thoroughly warmed before ridden. If I take an air cooled motor and start it up and take off, I run the risk of seizing the motor since the piston can actually expand quicker than the cylinder. Just like most diesels are meant to "WARM UP" so are motorcycles. The major difference between those who warm up their cars in the winter and those who warm up bikes is that the bikes exhaust is always louder so more people notice it. If you ever had a neighbor with a diesel engine, you will notice that they let it warm up for 5 to 10 minutes before they take off, (especially on large trucks). Most bikers are trying to get their bikes to idle without the choke on. It will only do this when the bike is warmed up. To speed this up, riders will gun the engine to make it produce more heat, but also they gun it to see if the idle will go down to a lower one. If it does, then they know the bike is warmed up and they can safely take off on it. Most motorcyclists are not morons, they just enjoy a freedom that you do not. Please give them a break, especially since they are doing a lot more to conserve energy by riding a bike than a car... They deserve the same respect as anyone else...
- It's not to show off, especially considering it's in the driveway. As some of the more educated respondents have suggested, it is to WARM UP THE ENGINE so that the car/bike may operate correctly. I have a big block V8 from the late 60s (muscle car) that I'll let idle for 5 minutes before driving slowly off.
- This comes down to simple psychology; the offender desires to have, or to be, something that they cannot have or be - in revving the engine and playing loud, usually teeny-dance, music they are expressing repressed personal failings. In essence, they are 'playing' at being someone or something else in order to appease their individual shortcomings; this is, of course, a Freudian conceptualisation that considers how we repress that which oppresses us and then seek to express it. It's all about attention-seeking really and the best remedy is to nip out, when the buggers are revving away and tinkering with their 'Ibiza 2007 by DJ DROSS' and smack them hard in their acne ridden faces!
- people do that because WE LOVE IT ! ! and you must handle it :D
- they went deaf from all that noise and are not sure if the car is on or not. he he he. or they're just stupid and dont think of anyone else
