Why do motorbikes ride with their lights on even during the day?

Public Comments

  1. some state laws require this
  2. It is easier to see them coming. And, it's law in some states.
  3. Because they are difficult for other motorists to see, particularly if the rider is wearing dark clothing
  4. It makes the bikes more noticable to other road users. Sorry, it really is as simple as that.
  5. Running lights are a safety precaution. In many states (and in all of Canada) running lights are mandatory on vehicles. This is to help OTHER people see your car or motorcycle clearer, day or night.
  6. To make themselves more visible, you're a lot more vulnerable on a bike and other road users are more careless.
  7. Most new bikes are made that way. The head lights are always on. This is a safety feature. It makes the biker more visible.
  8. All the new motorcycles run with the headlamp on from the factory. It's a safety issue, most people do not watch out for motorcycles, that's why most Harley riders, put loud pipes on their bikes, so people can hear them and then watch out for them.
  9. The reason for lights on during the day is for safety. You might haver noticed some cars and trucks now come with daytime running lights. And most big trucks are required by there companies to run with lights on for insurance purposes. Safety, Safety, Safety. lol
  10. So cars and trucks will see them better. Safety first!!!
  11. Its the law.
  12. safety...easier to see the cycle
  13. safety
  14. It is for all the scum bags that claim oh sorry I never saw him coming Dirt bags have used this excusees for years when they want to run over a biker. A light makes it easier to see the bike and takes away the stupid excus they did not see him commin
  15. To be seen... In some countries, new cars must be equipped with daytime running lights also.
  16. most bikes have the lights on auto. when u start them...its saftey depends on the bike.... its not just load pipes, its the headlight
  17. Its been law since 1978 or 79 . Car drivers still cant see bikes but at least they have one less excuse for the police
  18. A lot of states have it as a law. It's because people in cars are blind, and a motorcyclist needs to do pretty much everything they can to be visible. I used to work across the street from a fire station, and with how many times I saw idiot drivers almost hit FIRE TRUCKS (huge red fire trucks, with lights and sirens on!), I think we motorcyclists need to realize that our bikes are pretty much invisible to 95 percent of the drivers out there. ESPECIALLY if they're talking on the damn phone!
  19. SO DUMMIES HAVE A BETTER CHANCE TO SEE THEM. MAYBE IF THEY GOT OFF THE PHONE AND CONCENTRATE ON THE 3000 POUND VEHICLE THERE WOULD BE LESS ACCIDENTS!
