Why do dogs bark and attack motorbikes when you ride past?
I ride motorbikes and it is very dangerous when dogs run across and tries to bite the bike or your leg or the tyre, is there any solution to this? how can we stop them from attcaking?

- they don't like the noise
- Dogs can hear all the high pitched sounds your bike makes and you can't hear. But, the owners need to train their dogs not to chase cars and bikes, It's a bad habit for dogs to get into.
- U R an intruder into its territory. Out of fear it wants to be safe
- Dogs have an instinct to chase things that threaten their space. When you ride up on a motorbike (or walk or bike) they think that you're coming to take over their territory. They bark and chase you, and then you go away, so that tells them what they were doing worked--that they were able to get rid of the intruder! The solution to this is for the owner to be in control of their dog--to train it or have it fenced, the dog should never be out where it can attack people! But until then, in the real world, carry a walking stick or something, because, yes, you can really be in danger! If it's a dog in an area you're going to be in a lot, see what legal things can be done. If the dog actually does bite you or your tire, report it to the animal control department in your area. We have rabbits, and were woken up one night by a racket--some dogs had gotten out of their yard, come into ours and broke into our rabbit's hutch. The police came (because they were barking and keeping everyone in the neighborhood up!) and after it was all over ( the dogs caught, 2 rabbits dead) told us basically that nothing more could be done, just bury the rabbits and go on. Then the animal control lady finally got there, who knew the laws relating to animals. She said the people were liable for any damages and if there dogs did this again they could be arrested. So go to the people in your area who actually work with this and report any bites. Owners are supposed to have their animals under control at all times!
- That has happened to me several times; I don't know why dogs do that and why they hate motorcycles so much. I read of a method to ward off attacks: When you see a dog approaching your bike, slow up, put the bike in a low gear. Just before the dog reaches the bike, twist open the throttle - you will gain speed quickly and it will throw the dog's timing off. That method has worked for me a few times; it confuses the dog and will leave him in your behind quickly. However, you have to time this method quite closely. One time, several dogs came after me and the method worked ok, but dogs were coming from all over, so I finally had to give one of them a go**amn good swift kick. The dog howled and that seemed to scare the rest of them off. Good luck, ride safe.
- Beat a dog severely enough, and it will never repeat what it's just done.
- Let him catch you once and bite into a spinning tire. He WON'T do it again- guaranteed!
- Well definitely don't do what Ian F suggested. That is considered animal cruelty and you can go to jail for that. Ultimately, the dog owner is responsible. Yes, dogs have instinct to protect their territory. However, they should not be permitted to chase people, bikes, cars, or whatever. I know they are watchdogs but there is limit as to what they are aloud to do. If dogs are hasseling you then you have to contact the owner and straighten it out with him/her. If they don't cooperate, then report the incident to the police. This is probably the best solution.
