on average, how lon will a chain and sprockets last on sportsbike?
average wise, and what about sprockets, will they both need replacing at time of chain replacement? does both rear and front sprockets wear at same rate?

- Chain will go first, counter shaft sprocket will go second and last for wheel sprocket. Depending on how you ride, and the horsepower of your bike Id say about 8000 to 12000 for a chain, 2 chains for a set of sprockets. Of course you can run the sprockets until they look like saw teeth but expect the sprockets to fail sooner. Keeping proper tension is important at all times. Good luck.
- All three have to be replaced at the same time. A chains life is solely dependent on how you have maintained it. You have to clean it and grease it with o-ring lube ever 500 miles or after you drive through a lot of rain. Look for wear indicators, rust, the chain getting looser, the sprockets points start looking like waives. If you do maintain your chain you shouldn't see these signs tell after 15K miles. If your asking this question you should have a good motorcycle mechanic do it for you. the tools you would need would cost just as much as the labor. It doesn't fall under a DIY job.
- You can prolong the length of chain and sprocket life with a Scottoiler http://www.gear4bikes.com/acatalog/Scottoiler.html Sprockets and chains are designed to wear at the same rate. Engine configuration will affect chain-wear, for example, a twin with irregular firing order will put more stress on the drive train than an inline 4.
