  1. they are badass
  2. More Organ donors are needed more urgently.....
  3. I Hate Motorbikes... My boyfriend has one and I worry sick about him! But its something he loves and enjoys so I let him get on with it... I say if its what you really want then go for it aslong as you promise to be carefull? xxx
  4. my partner has one, hes had them since he was 16 yrs old hes now 24, he loves them, his dad and mam ride them too! i am not mad keen on them but used safely they are fine! just dont go to mad on it! by rocky_ you really are a grade A prick! Whats with all the you will die sh*t? if you ride them properly thet are fine, my bf says he would rather come off a bike than get tangled up in a load of metal!!!! And as for FLITS comment its the bloody car drivers not lookin out for bikes that cause the accidents he must be one of them ignorant drivers!
  5. I think guys on motorbikes are sexy. So yes get one!!
  6. Other than they are 'fun' to play with when the weather is good...no
  7. Good - Cheaper Petrol, Insurance, maintenance costs, smaller road tax, better for the enviroment. Bad - Your probably going to die.
  8. As a driver, I hate them!! The amount of accidents they have and could cause on the roads because they can't keep to the limits is astronomical!! Or, on the other hand, motorcyclists who go too slow are equally dangerous, as the cars behind will over take. I think they look great if there is a rally or event going on, but otherwise I don't like them. Sorry!!
  9. Most are very economical - they get high gas mileage and you have lower insurance rates. They are easy to park, somewhat simple to learn how to ride and very enjoyable.
  10. You can live your life dangerously and getting a motorbike will add to it and your family will just be sick with worry the whole time you are out on it. Bikers never fair well in an accident. Sorry to be all doom and gloom. They are very exciting and very sexy too!
  11. dont get onemore chance of dieing
  12. Since you mention family, I assume you are a teen. Parents have a tendency not to want their kids to have these bikes for safety reasons. Secondary for the reason they don't know much about them except by what programs they see on TV. I bought one for my son; he bought the safety helmet and gear and uses it every weekend and holiday. I have tried it and find they are awesome "toys" to do. I have a used one on layaway to surprise my kid the next time he asks me to go along.
  13. It is a dangerous way to get around, but the gas mileage is phenomenal!
  14. tell them it's got great fuel economy. My husband when he was running his Harley got 70 miles to the gallon... at $3+ a gallon, it's cheap going around. They are dangerous if you get into a wreck, no protection but your leathers. Some girls think they are COOL! Cars don't often pay attetion to them or try to share the road with them. However, " Loud pipes save lives" Good exercise? Well, you have to be in some kind of shape to ride any distance without wearing yourself out. Do you look good in leather? No a/c maintainance in the summer, just the wind in your ears and through your hair... Not an ideal vehicle for rainy days. Good excuse for not grocery shopping... bike doesn't have a trunk. Big enough to carry a 6-pack home from work. Only seats 2, no room for carpooling. Fits in all parking spots. No reverse gear.. Fun to drive. I would say if you don't have a child, there would be no hurt in getting a motorcycle. You do have to drive smart and be careful. Cars don't often watch for you, so you have to watch for them.
  15. Dangerous, lost the will to live.
  16. If you don't live in an area where heavy traffic congestion is a problem they have some pluses. They get excellent fuel economy, they handle well and can get through places a car can't. The drawbacks are that motorists have a difficult time seeing them, having only 2 wheels you must be experienced in order to ride them safely and accidents are much more likely to cause serious injury than if you were in a car. If you like to go fast or if you live in a traffic congested area, you really should get a car, motorcycles are just to dangerous under those conditions if you have little or no experience riding one. You also have no control over the driver of other cars that don't see you.
  17. I dont wanna be all doom and gloom but i live right next to an "A" road and any accidents with motorbikes included have left the driver dead. Not once have i known a motorcyclist to survive on this road. As you drive down the road, all you can see is flowers here and there, its really upsetting.
  18. Motorcycles are good on gasoline, beware of old granny and her friends that have bad eye sight can't see you, then they end up running you over, 80 year old granny got her licences yesterday to drive, at the DMV, lol the state giving out DL to old people from a cracker jack box, smile
  19. they are fun, agile, fuel efficient, and inexpensive, i would reccomend it to anyone.... just make sure you take your time an LEARN how to ride... good luck
  20. Bikes are good.I'm a bit down today,so can't really think of much else to say except that those who say we are all organ donors and going to die should go sh*t in their hand.Keep the pressure up,you'll get there my friend.Good luck.
  21. I wouldn't like my Son to have one but he's never asked anyway. The problem is not just bad riders, but bad drivers. A friend of mine is on the police heavy bikes, he often attends accidents where the driver will say "I just didn't see him" his reply is "funny that, when I'm on my police bike EVERYONE see's me!" The moral is, lookout for yourself, and bad drivers.
  22. RESPECT and DEFENSIVE DRIVING !!!! You may be the best driver in the world but that doesn't mean the guy in the car next to you is. I have ridden since 1985 and yes I have had an accident or 2. PAY ATTENTION to your surroundings and enjoy the freedom of the ride.
  23. Depending on what kind of motorbike u r talking about, or motorcycle would b the proper term, I believe. If u r just starting out on a bike, u will deffinately want to get a used bike & deffinately a 600cc engine, maybe a 750 depending on ur hight n size. Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki & Yamaha all make nice bikes in the 600 & 750 class. Also, depending on where u live, check out the colleges around u, like Cerritos, has a motorcycle awearness course u can take to enlighten u on different manouvers and how to ride safe and when u complete the course, they give u a certificate of completion to give to the DMV & they give u your license. Hopefully, your mother will be a little more atease.
  24. ive been a biker for 4 years ive had 3 bikes and they are great fun ive just bought myself a suzuki burgman 125 scooter as a result of a bad accident in which a disqualified driver knocked me off and i broke my wrist and wrote my little cg125 off but i cant wait to get back on the road again plus they beat ken livingstones congestion charge dirt cheap 2 run £15 a year for tax "125cc" so faultless just be carefull of the other pricks that use our roads have fun be safe
  25. Well you have gotten a lot of answers --- well some were answers. Generally parents who are not familiar with motorbikes tend to view them as extremely dangerous. And generally parents wish to protect their kids so they would do what they could to keep the kid from getting a motorbike if they felt they were unsafe. Your problem is going to be to convince your parents that they are not that dangerous. The best way to do this in my opinion is to have a respected adult who rides a motorbike talk to your parents and show them how a responsible rider can be decently safe riding. My opinion on motorbikes (we do call them motorcycles in the U.S.A.) is that they are fun and fairly safe if ridden responsibly. My whole family has them. All of my kids ride them. None of us has had a serious crash. All of us have laid them down and gotten scrapes, bruises, etc. I have ridden since I was 12 years old. My sons began riding even younger. There are many things good about motorbikes: Lower "petrol" costs is a major good point. More fun to ride. Easy to park. Easier to repair than an auto. There are also some bad things about them: No protection in the event of a crash. Bad weather will keep you from riding. You can't carry much. You must be much more attentive while riding. As to whether you should get one or not. This must be your decision. I am biased in favour, so naturally I would encourage you. I think most people would enjoy riding a motorbike.
  26. i've been riding a bike since i was 16, now 55, that is, er, 39 years - gosh! No bones broken. A mixture of riding, country roads, busy town, freeways. I started because I needed transport to go to play tennis and table-tennis matches all around the district. If you have a good sensible reason that you need cheap transport several times a week, every week then you can justify a bike. Unless of course the family are happy to drive you everywhere you want to go, when you want to go, and collect you later!
  27. they are great fun to ride ,very good on gas, lower emissions I enjoy taking mine out as often as possible either for commuting to work or just out cruising around town or thru the canyons and they are only as safe as the rider is and always wear your safety equipment such as a helmet ,gloves, jacket ,and boots that cover the ankle
  28. Depends on the individual If you are going to be a sensible rider and respect the fact that you are on the outside then they are great If you are a possible "organ doner" then just think again I ride and have done for many years and do not like the "idiot" riders that sometimes get on the roads. they are the ones that project motorcycling a really bad reputation. Not all of us deserve that. Regards good excuses I don't think that you need one. If you want a bike and you propose to be a better rider then get one Good luck and either way ride safe if you do get one and if you don't then please respect us on the roads that do ride
  29. You're asking in the Motorcycle section, so you're going to get biased answers, LOL. I ride a motorcycle for my daily commute, about 30 miles/day. The good: It's great, and easy to park. The bad: There are no fender benders on a motorcycle. A glancing collision will probably be mighty painful. During your first few months of riding, you might be tempted to speed, or stunt, or do something stupid (I rode mine down a flight of stairs, fell over, got dragged, ruined my clothes, scraped lots of skin off my right side, $$$ to see the doctor and get an x-ray, $$$ to repair the bike). Riding the bike in the rain isn't a good idea, because your helmet isn't equipped with windshield wipers. = My opinion: a) Take the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course in your area. b) After that, if you still want to ride one, wait until you're not so much under your family's thumb (i.e. over 18, and not living with them).
  30. I got my first bike on my sixteenth birthday and i have been riding them ever since, now i'm 38. Yes you need to ride carefully, start small and as you abilities grow so can the power of your machine. Yes people can knock you off , but if you treat your bike with respect and remember that most car only drivers tend to be blind, ignorant, ars**oles then you will be fine. Everyone should try it. How can anyone have a valid opinion about anything they haven't tried. Just a quick FACT motorcyclists are also far more observant when driving a car.
  31. The best approach I think is, when they say you can't have one, say 'OK then' and go and buy one. Then they'll say 'YOU WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO GET ONE!!!' and you say 'I know, but I did anyway.' Then let your Dad have a little go because every real man knows that bikes are the coolest most fun things ever, and even though he won't admit it, he'll change his mind. Then sit back, get whinged at for a couple of weeks and wait for it all to blow over. Enjoy your bike!
  32. a good reason to buy a bike: you may die tomorrow ... so buy it while you can. its fun chick magnet cheaper than most cars good on gas make new friends a new toy bar hopper wheelie machine check out what i can do on this here hold my beer is this legal? who cares get r done to me it is not a motorcycle but an obsession ... if any new bike is released, i look at it in all the magazines, compare all the specs, read all the articles, and i actually consider buying it. then i realize that I'm window shopping and that i can't have every bike. so i get a new one like every year. not very cost effective. but fun and like i said you might die tomorrow and not even drove the blistering hayabusa or felt the smooth power of a goldwing with cruse control and a surround sound radio. or the felt the nice rumble of the vtx1800 with vance and hines pipes with power commander. this is not a hobby ... no, this is what makes my heart beat. this is what allows me to think clearly. to breathe, to get away from every thing that has ever bothered you in life, this is life.
  33. hell just get it it's a great buzz if your family won't let you get adopted by a biker family they might even finance it lol
  34. Cheap, FUN, economical, FUN, environmentally friendly, FUN, practical, FUN. If you ride a bike, in UK, you are 27 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured than a car driver, get some good training, keep learning, and have some FUN while you can!
  35. gas mileage, speed, incredible fun, no waiting for traffic, girls love em, no tickets from cops (if you are brave/stupid enough), lower ins. costs, freedom, ease of maintenance, price of parts/maintenance! always a good choice to ride.
  36. Take no notice of rocky and emily etc. I've ridden motorcycles since I was 16 that was many years ago and I.ve never broken a bone ar been in any major accident even though I used to go faster than almost anyone on the road. The trick is to be aware of danger, expect cars and trucks and buses to do the unexpected. Treat all car drivers as potential assasins know your limitations and ride accordingly. Bikes should be compulsory for everyone to learn on as it would give them an insight into what motorcyclists have to put up with on a daily basis from other road users. If everyone had to ride one for 3 months prior to getting a car licence there would be far less rider deaths. Car drivers are the cause of biker deaths far more than bikers themselves.
  37. Why do you need an excuse? If you want a bike buy one, disregard all of the trash you here about bad ass's Their just another version of a donky. Biking is world wide multi-national and has few limits of where you can go and get too. I have had bikes for almost 50 years, fallen off a few times, travelled the world, met untold numbers of people to talk with every where, so what are you waiting for. .
  38. usually if your family doesnt want you to get one there is a reason. #1 they may thing your not mature enough. #2 Maybe a family member had an accident in the past, or #3 no one else in your family rides. So heres the deal i came from a family where people didn't ride when i was 16 i wanted a bike but i was smart enough to think about it and i came to this conclusion. when i can drive on the highway on a regular bases and cars are passin me then i'll buy a bike. needless to say i didn't get my first bike untill i was 25 but i started on an r6 and 6 month later i bought an r1 i've ridden 2years with no accidents (knocking on wood) and i'm carfull and when i do screw around its in controlled enviroments. Other food for though. most motorcycle accidents are caused by riders who are 40years plus and alchol is involved. Its not doing the wheelies and stoppies getting people killed it the speeding and drinking. hope this helps
  39. I have both my car and bike license, car license for 15 years and just over 8 years for bike. currently i own a honda vtr 1000 firestorm and dont have a car. i commute to work round trip of 26 miles a day and the journey to work in the morning by car takes about an hour, by bike just over twenty minutes depending on conditions. public transport does not get me to work on time and the bus takes same length of time as the car. pricewise if i use public transport, it cost twice as much as i would be for petrol for the bike over a week. all in all the bike is more economical for me than any other form of transport and at least three times as much fun... i say go for it, ride safe and most of all enjoy!!!
  40. Get some good training, take your test, get a 600cc take your time get some experience and work your way up, but take your time.
