Tips on how to carry a passenger on a sportsbike?

ive never carried a passenger before. I have a 636 and over 20,000 miles of riding experience riding solo. I'm kind of short but can set one foot down at a stop. I could barely tip-toe if i put both feet down. How can i safely carry a passenger? Any tips?

  1. Tell him to put his feet down at traffic lights?
  2. Don't
  3. practice more
  4. IF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE A RIDER THAN THE OTHER PERSONS WEIGHT SHOULD LOWER THE BACKEND OF THE MOTORCYCLE AND GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT BETTER FOOTING ON THE GROUND
  5. If your too short for both of your feet to touch the ground then i think it might be too dangerous for the passenger to ride with you. I wouldn't do it. But RIDE ON MY BROTHER.....
  6. Get a bike rack or some pegs.
  7. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it. Others may have a different opinion. I welcome their thoughts on this matter. If your passenger can sit on the bike flat footed on the ground, perhaps you can ask them to help support the bike for you at a stop.
  8. with a passenger, your suspension should flex a little more (giving you more footing at stops) Have the passenger put their hands on the gas tank (keeping their weight off you) and enjoy the ride. Also make sure they don't lean funny around corners, it could mess up your lines.
  9. If you can't support the bike to stop if falling over when stopped with the extra weight of a pillion, you should not be taking any passengers. The passenger seat is often higher and you passenger won't be able to stop the bike falling over. Please don't consider taking anyone on the back.
  10. you don't need BOTH feet down to hold up a bike, just lean it over to one side when you are stopped. either that or get a bike that is actually designed to carry to people. you know like a Harley or something good.
  11. if you can barely touch the ground that bike is going to fall over unless all of your stops and slow turns are RIGHT ON. especially if you have a hefty female on the bike of that thing. the pilion on those are even higher than a cruiser so you really have to be on your game to keep the rubber side down.
  12. Make sure you brief your passenger not to put his feet down at any time unless you say so. Tell him to lean with bike but don't exaggerate the lean. Make sure you give him the OK before he gets on or off when you stop..Good idea to increase the pre load on the suspension and increase tyre pressures. Ease off on the acceleration and try to be gentle on the gear changes or you might lose your passenger. Slowing down to a stop is the worst time. Gently genty is the rule. Now go enjoy.
  13. First things first: make damn sure she has a butt the size of a postage stamp. If she can stay absolutely still and balance neutral at stop lights and other stops, you can get by with one foot down; no problem. Hey, I like big girls too, but if you and her start to fall you are not going to stop it, so your passenger needs to be a small chick. The passenger seat being the size of a softball doesn't help matters -its that simple. I understand you have never had a passenger,... there is but ONE way to get that practice. The only other way is to get a milk crate, fill it with bricks, tie it down and ride... Thats how I learned to carry a load on the back.
