Looking to get a Sportsbike and need some advice?
I'm looking to get my first sportsbike. As of right now the only experience i have is practice for the road test. My main concern is my height because I am about 5'2 and weigh 110 lbs. People have told me not to get the 250s because ill get bored but i need advice on how to choose what bike is right for me. Also a dealer told me he could lower the bike for me and ill be fine so i needed to get some advice

- alright, 2 issues... 1. engine size: getting a 250 sportbike is not a bad choice for your first couple seasons, they can easily maintain highway speeds...and they keep their value pretty well, so you can seel them for close to what you paid... if you want something bigger, 600CC bikes aren't much taller than 250's, but are MUCH stronger... 2. lowering: if you lower the suspension of the motorcycle, you will affect how it handles... keep both in mind..
- 1st thing.... don't listen to "people" the idiots will get you killed.. 2nd trust yourself and make your own choices
- EEEEEEKKK! A dealer told you he'd lower the bike for you? Run away! Seriously, make sure to sit on any bike you're interested in, and make sure that your feet can comfortably hit the ground. There are plenty of bikes out there that will NOT require you to lower it. If you check other questions/answers on this matter, you'll see that the Ninja 250 is usually the bike of choice when experienced riders answer the question. And, with the new ones, it is FAR from boring. And, another point: when people tell you not to get a 250cc bike because "you'll get bored", I always fire back with, "get bored of what?" -- A 250cc bike will carry you up to highway speed very quickly, ride all day on the highway, and even allow you to have fun at "track days" if you so desire. If you get "bored" with that, you're into riding for the wrong reasons, IMHO.
- I took the same advice and bought a Ninja 250 when I got my license last year. I just spent the weekend shopping for a new bike. It's hard to explain why you will want a bigger bike, but trust me; you will. I'm not a speed demon myself or anything, the 250 is just too small and too light to consider it a bike you'll keep for years, in my own opinion. There are people that have ridden them for decades, which I think is great. But the majority of people I know couldn't take more than a year of it. If you are set on a 500, and you feel your size is limiting, you should take a good look at the Ninja 500. It's almost identical to the 250 but I believe it's a bit heavier and it is more powerful. You don't have to be a speed demon to appreciate power in a bike. My final piece of advice is to go to different dealers and sit on as many bikes as you possibly can. This will give you an idea of what you're comfortable with. Then go home and read reviews online and do as much research as you possibly can on the bike.
