Can anyone recommend a good insurance company for motorbikes in the UK?
I'm a new rider, the two quotes I have so far are HUGE! The bike is an Aprilia sports bike, do you know of a UK company specialising in this?

- No, but you can try confuse.com
- Bennetts http://www.bennetts.co.uk/
- My bike's insured with Carole Nash (www.carolenash.com)
- Try MCE.Where do you think Bennets get all the money to sponsor BSB?
- carol nash...you wont be disapointed...
- I'm with Norwich Union. My insurance for a 50cc moped with L plates and I'm a disabled rider dropped from £195.00 to £63 (mind you that's with 2 years no claims bonus and very careful riding)
- Try all the advertisers in the back of Motorcycle News. You can't predict which one will come up cheaper - different riders on different bikes get wildly varying quotes from different companies. Don't ignore the brokers either. I shop around every year, but for a while Laxtons (see MCN advert) have found me the cheapest insurance by quite a margin. Don't forget to help the insurers to help you by minimising the risk - if you can lock the bike up to a ground anchor in a brick garage, get advanced training as soon as you can, and predict your annual mileage, they'll compete for your business.

- It's always a tricky one. An afternoon on the phone usually pays off. Get quotes off some of the big ones then phone a few more and ask them if they can undercut your quotes. Then phone some of the other ones back and say you've had cheaper quotes and see if they'll undercut them. It's amazing how much they're prepared to knock off. I'm with Bennetts at the moment, it's a sh!te policy but cheap.
- I've been with Carole Nash and Bennetts, both of whom were ok and the cheapest quotes I could get at the time. I'm now with ebike, because not only did they give me the best quote, they had the lowest premium and breakdown cover as standard. That's proper breakdown cover, not the 'we'll take you to the nearest garage or home if it's closer" one that I had to pay extra for with Carole Nash. They also had the lowest excess, and as I'd just been stung for five hundred quid from my old bike getting hit by someone else (still can't work out why I was losing the excess on that) that was something of a priority. Do some serious hunting around the net... it's all I did.
