I am concidering importing a Ducati motorbike from America, what is involved paperwork wise and tax?

Is there any regulations or tests once the bike is in the country. How do i go about registering it, what does it all cost?

  1. Good choice of a machine. Which country are you in? Why do you want to import a non-american bike if you are in europe. If not, there are various issues: From where, TO WHERE, by WHAT form of shipment, across which type of lines. If I knew more about it, I'd be more helpful.
  2. It will cost you more than buying the same bike here. Shipping will be about £1,000. Import duty, V.A.T. and brokerage charges will add 30% onto what you paid for the bike, plus the shipping. An S.V.A. test and registration will cost at least £750. Unless it's a very rare or unusual machine, it's simply not worth it. If you don't know what vehicle importation involves, you WILL get burned...
  3. Ducati is not made in America, so why would you buy one here and ship it there? I'm assuming your somewhere in europe? Ducatis are made in Italy, if they don't sell them where you are at I'm sure they sell them somewhere close, if not get a plane ticket to Italy, and ride it home, you'll save a few grand! (if you do this you should get the price of the bike you want in America, and then bring it to italy and say "I can get it for this in America and they have a huge shipping fee" you could probably get a few thousand off if you do this. you should probabaly check with your motors division and see if you can even license it where you are at.
